3/07 When college kids fly to  Ft.
Lauderdale for Spring break it usually
means party time and the beach. My
sons and their friend Ben from PSU
immediately got out of town and
headed for the Keys and the salt water
fly fishing capital of the world!
4/27-29/07 My brother-in-law, Jed and I drove to central
Pennsylvania to visit my sons, Will and Rich, who are
finishing up their degrees at PSU.  The four of us spent
some time on  Spring Creek and Fishing Creek, limestone,
spring-fed fisheries that are loaded with trout. I took some
of these pictures as did  Will.
Rich and Jed
casting dry flies
to rising fish on
Fishing Creek.
Rich with a nice
brown trout from
Fishing Creek.
Taken with a
chartreuse
copper John.
Will with a fat,
Fisherman's
Paradise
rainbow-
caught before
he had to go
to work!
I caught this
brown trout on a
dry fly on Spring
Creek above
Fisherman's
Paradise.  Not
big, but a
beautiful fish!
5/7/07- Here is my first turkey, a 22lb
bruiser with 9" beard and 1 1/4' spurs.
When I went out for the first hunt of my
season I heard him gobbling on his
roost about 200 yards East of the
house. I took my position down hill from
him and called to him as soon as he
was on the ground. Ten minutes into
the hunt I was taking his picture!
My friend and hunting partner, Mike Tatjes from Milton,
NH sent this picture that he took last fall. Here is how
he described the action: "This is on Milton's Depot
Pond...the main lake in you see along Rte 16.  It was
taken around the first of Dec. The bear entered from
the Maine shore and was swimming out to about 200
geese! The geese started honking at him and forced
him to the NH shore where he climbed a tree." I guess
that tops it all!
October 2007- Early season in
Northern New England
Here are some from Matthew Russel from the Salem, Il. Du chapter.

"Finally downloaded a few of our pictures onto my computer.  Sending you a couple to put
on the website.  Hope you like them.  First picture is me just after I made it to shore from
paddling in the equipment after a days hunt.  As you can see it was a good one.  Second
picture is myself and good friend Dave Boswell, (Centralia, IL DU chapter Pres.) after a
good hunt in some flooded timber.  Nothing was shot over 15 yards that day.  Third picture
is of my two best friends and hunting partners.  Steve Behrends and Chris Graham.  Both
love waterfowling and are hardcore DU volunteers.  They are pictured here with The Crews
casualties for the day.  That little hole in the timber produced over 100 ducks for us in just
a week.  Fourth and finally picture is the crew with some huge hybrid striped bass.  Left to
Right--Travis Gillet, Grant Lobek, Chris Graham, and Matt Russell"
September, 2007- Rich
spent the summer working
in Glacier N. Park and had
great fishing. When his job
finished I joined him and we
fished the Bitterroot, rock
Creek, Upper Big Hole and
the Kootenai. The biggest
fish were 18".
10/16/07 The geese
are in the silage
fields and I went out
for the first time this
morning. Shot these
early and was home
by 8:00. The
migration is on!
10/07 My DU friend Mark
Gagnon sent this picture of his
son Josh holding two Maine
blackducks that they shot on
one of our local rivers! Happy
young man!
My favorite Western
Maine marsh- frozen
over on Veterans day!
11/21 Will with his first
duck of the season.
11/26-27 Pictures of our annual South
Jersey hunt. Will with a nice blue
phase snow goose and his 15+ lb.
Canada goose. The bearded
gentleman is Keith McGowan, a World
Champion and our "varsity" guide.
11/30 I finally shot
my deer and this
time with a
traditional
Lancaster style
flintlock rifle that I
built several years
ago. My first with a
muzzle-loader.
12/2 Yesterday was cold with a strong
NW wind and tonight we have a snowy
N-easter coming. This morning was the
time to see if the birds had been frozen
off of their inland ponds and had
moved to this NH tidal river.  We saw
lots of ducks- mergansers, whistlers,
blacks and mallards. We also saw
geese and 4 sandhill cranes (which
are rare here). To the left is Will with
the morning take.
12/12 Will and I went on a
trophy hunt this morning.
